Unique to the Deadfire, a Proving Stone is a large, round slab of rock with a circle cut from the center, often etched with Huana pictograms. Ancient Huana culture ritually resolved tribal conflicts through these stones. A tribe would challenge a rival to carry the stone to a specific remote or hazardous location. While the bearer of the stone could be accompanied by others to protect her, only the champion could carry the stone.
Over time, this became more of a political statement, eventually evolving into something of a practical joke. Tales of cleverly delivered Proving Stones can attain positions of prominence in Huana culture, and one such story, the farcical recounting of a Proving Stone left in a queen's bed as she sleeps, has become one of the Deadfire's most beloved comedies.
